Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you own Wellborn cabinetry and a hinge has snapped, a drawer glide has given out, or a door front has warped in San Antonio humidity, we can match the part and install it correctly. Most Wellborn kitchen remodeling work in San Antonio runs $14,000 to $45,000 for a full kitchen, but individual part replacements like hinges, drawer slides, and cabinet doors run far less, often $150 to $800 installed. You usually discover the failure the moment a drawer starts catching, a door hangs crooked, or a shelf pin drops out of a stripped hole.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn Cabinet has run three primary lines for years: Wellborn Premier, Wellborn Estate, and Wellborn Select. The Premier line uses ½-inch plywood cabinet boxes with full-extension drawer glides on most configurations. Estate is the mid-tier line, still plywood box construction but with a slightly narrower hardware selection. Select is the value line, particleboard boxes, and lighter-duty hardware that fails first in San Antonio’s humid summers.
To identify your exact model, open a cabinet door and look for a small printed label on the inside of the face frame or on the back side of a drawer front. Wellborn stamps a date code and sometimes a series letter that tells you the era of manufacture. Cabinets built before 2008 use a different hinge bore pattern than current production. That matters: buy a hinge designed for post-2008 Wellborn doors and it will not seat correctly in an older door. We check the bore spacing before ordering anything.
On the OEM vs. aftermarket question for Wellborn specifically: Wellborn hinges are typically Blum or Grass brand, re-labeled. You can buy the exact same Blum hinge from a supply house for less than the Wellborn-branded version, and it will fit identically. Drawer glides are the same story. What you should not do is buy a no-name hinge off a big-box shelf and hope it lines up. The cup depth and screw pattern differ enough that you will end up drilling new holes in a cabinet door, which weakens the door and looks wrong. For a homeowner, the pragmatic path is matching the hardware correctly the first time.
Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Wellborn Cabinet, but we stock and install Wellborn-compatible parts every week, and have been doing so across San Antonio since 2004.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- A drawer catches or scrapes when you open it. The nylon rollers inside the drawer glide have worn flat, or the glide has bent from years of weight. In San Antonio, fine dust from limestone soils works its way into the tracks and accelerates the wear.
- A cabinet door will not stay closed. The hinge’s internal spring has lost tension, or the clip mechanism that holds the hinge to the mounting plate has cracked. This is the most common Wellborn failure we see, especially on doors opened thousands of times over a decade.
- The door front has started to warp or pull away from the frame. Humidity swings in San Antonio cause the wood to expand and contract. If the door is a slab MDF panel, warping is permanent and the door needs replacement, not adjustment.
- Shelf pins keep falling out of their holes. The 5mm holes in a particleboard cabinet side have stripped. This happens most on Wellborn Select cabinets, and it is fixable with proper insert sleeves, not by cramming a bigger pin in.
- The soft-close no longer soft-closes. The damper inside the hinge or drawer glide has blown its seal. This is a part-level fix, inexpensive, and takes about ten minutes per hinge when you have the right part in hand.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Wellborn kitchen remodel in San Antonio, plan on $14,000 to $45,000 depending on cabinet count, countertop material, and how much plumbing and electrical work is involved. A small kitchen remodel typically lands between $9,000 and $20,000. If you are not doing a full remodel but replacing failed Wellborn parts only, here is what we quote in the San Antonio market:
| Work | Installed Price Range (San Antonio) |
|---|---|
| Hinge replacement (per door, including part and labor) | $150 – $400 |
| Drawer glide replacement (per drawer, including part and labor) | $150 – $400 |
| Cabinet door replacement (single door, matched to existing finish) | $250 – $800 |
| Cabinet door replacement (full kitchen, all doors and drawer fronts) | $4,000 – $13,000 |
| Full kitchen remodel (existing Wellborn boxes re-faced or replaced) | $14,000 – $45,000 |
Every job includes the written price before work starts, plus the part and the labor in one line. You do not get a parts invoice and a separate labor surprise. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair or installation is not right within a year of completion, we return and fix it at no cost. That includes a free second visit, no charge, no dispute process.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a cabinet hinge or a drawer glide is not dangerous, and a patient homeowner can do it. The catch is getting the right part. If you order the wrong hinge bore pattern or the wrong glide length, you either return it and start over, or you drill holes that should not exist. That is where the money gets wasted. We tell San Antonio homeowners this: check your sticker, measure the cup diameter (usually 35mm on modern Wellborn cabinets, sometimes 26mm on older doors), and match the part number before you touch a screwdriver.
Where DIY goes sideways is when multiple parts fail at once, or when the cabinet box itself is damaged. A stripped shelf-pin hole in particleboard, a split hinge bore, a door that needs re-finishing to match the rest of the kitchen: those are the calls we get from homeowners halfway through a project they thought would take an hour. If you would rather skip the guessing, call us at (254) 269-5071 and we will match the part and install it. The estimate is free.
Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s covered, that’s the whole job before the job starts.
FAQs

Most Wellborn hinges and glides last 10 to 15 years under normal daily use, but San Antonio’s heat and humidity swing can shorten that to 7 to 10 years for cabinets near a range or dishwasher where heat and steam cycle constantly. Hinges on the most-used doors, like the one under the sink or the utensil drawer, fail first.
We can repair a hinge bore, adjust alignment, and replace hardware on most doors. A warped MDF slab door cannot be un-warped and should be replaced. If the finish is worn, refinishing is possible on wood doors but not on thermofoil, which peels and cannot be re-bonded once it starts to separate. Call (254) 269-5071 and we can tell you which situation you are in.
A single hinge or drawer glide replacement takes about 30 minutes on site once the correct part is in hand. A full set of door fronts or a cabinet re-facing runs 2 to 5 days depending on the size of the kitchen. We give you a written schedule before any work starts.
We keep common Blum and Grass hinges, drawer glides, and shelf pins on the truck because those cover most Wellborn kitchens built after 2008. If your cabinet needs an older or unusual part, we order it and schedule the install once it arrives, usually within a few business days.
Yes, in most cases we match Wellborn door styles and finishes through the same supplier network we use for KraftMaid and other cabinet lines. Older finishes that have faded in sun exposure may need a custom stain match, which we are upfront about before ordering anything. The goal is a door that does not look like a patch job.
If you have a Wellborn part that has failed or a kitchen that needs more than a part, call (254) 269-5071 for a free estimate. We will tell you what is wrong, what it costs, and when we can be there, in writing.
