Moen Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have a Moen window or door component that’s worn out, we can source the matching OEM part and handle the install. Most Moen hardware replacements in San Antonio run between $400 and $1,800 installed, depending on whether you’re dealing with a roller assembly, a lock set, or a full sash balance system. The telltale sign is usually obvious: a window that won’t stay up, a sliding door that grinds instead of glides, or a lock that no longer catches.
We see a lot of Moen patio door hardware failures in San Antonio homes, and the Texas heat is rarely innocent. Sun exposure bakes the nylon rollers until they crack, and dust from our dry summers works into the track and wears the bearings flat. The part itself is often a $40 to $120 piece. The labor to get it out, match it, and set it right is where the cost lives.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen builds windows and doors across several series lines, and the parts don’t always cross over. The most common installations we service in San Antonio are Moen’s sliding patio doors and double-hung windows from the Vivid and Sierra lines. Each series uses different roller diameters, sash balance tension ratings, and strike plate geometry, so matching the part to your exact model matters.
Here’s what to check before you call. Look for a laser-etched model number on the corner of the window sash or on the door’s edge rail, usually a ten-digit code starting with two letters. Measure the roller wheel diameter if you can see it, either 7/8 inch or 1-1/4 inch on most Moen sliders. On windows, the balance shoe color is your identifier: blue shoe means a 12 to 15 pound sash, red means 18 to 22 pounds. Get that wrong and the window will either slam shut or refuse to stay open.
OEM Moen parts carry the exact factory spec and typically last 8 to 12 years in San Antonio’s climate. Quality aftermarket equivalents from Caldwell or Prime-Line are usually 20 to 30 percent cheaper and work fine for most repairs. If the part is still under Moen’s limited warranty, we’ll tell you how to file the claim and then install whatever they ship you.

Signs Your Moen Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window drops or won’t stay open. The spring balance inside the sash has lost tension or the balance shoe has cracked. This is a friction-fit system, meaning one worn component makes the whole assembly sloppy.
- Sliding door grinds or takes real muscle to move. The nylon rollers have gone flat or the bearings are packed with San Antonio dust and grit. Left alone, the door starts etching the aluminum track underneath, and that turns a roller swap into a track replacement.
- Lock set spins or won’t throw the bolt. The internal cam gear inside the lock body strips, especially on doors that get slammed. The fix is a new lock assembly, not just a new handle.
- You can feel a draft or see daylight around the seal. The weatherstrip channel on Moen doors is a press-in design that shrinks and hardens in the heat. It’s a $15 to $30 part that makes a bigger comfort difference than most people expect.
- Door is hard to lock because it doesn’t sit square anymore. This one is often a worn bottom roller on one side letting the door sag. The roller replacement usually brings the door back into alignment without touching the frame.

What changes the number: series type, how many sashes or panels need work, and whether the track shows damage from the failed part. You get a written line-item price before we start work. The labor is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise, so if the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Isaac Pruett has been handling these exact repairs in San Antonio for years, and he’ll be the one signing off on your scope of work.
DIY or Call Us?
This one depends on which part failed. Weatherstrip replacement is genuinely simple: you pull the old strip out of the channel and press the new one in. Sash balance replacement is not. The springs inside the balance cartridge are under tension, and releasing the wrong way can fire the shoe out of the frame hard enough to take a chunk out of drywall or your hand.
Sliding door rollers are the middle ground. The job is straightforward if the door lifts out cleanly, but Moen doors in San Antonio homes often have a top track clip that wants a second set of hands and a trim tool to release. If the door is heavy, sagging, or the track is already scored, call us. Getting the door out without damaging the frame is the kind of thing that looks easy on video and goes sideways in person.

FAQs

Most Moen hardware components last 8 to 12 years in San Antonio’s climate. Rollers and weatherstripping trend toward the lower end because heat, UV, and dust accelerate wear. Springs and lock bodies usually make it closer to the full 12. Call (254) 269-5071 if your parts are failing earlier than that – there may be an installation issue that’s grinding everything down.
Sometimes, but not often. Rollers can be cleaned and re-lubricated if caught early, but once the nylon wheel is flat, there’s no rebuilding it. Lock sets are almost never serviceable because the internal cam strips. Weatherstrip can’t be patched – it has to go. We’ll always tell you if a repair gets you more life before we quote a replacement.
Most single-part replacements take 60 to 90 minutes on site. Full sliding door hardware refreshes run two to three hours. Window sash balance work averages 30 to 45 minutes per window. We’ll give you a time window before the technician arrives, and you’ll have their name and photo before they show up.
We stock common Moen roller sizes, balance shoes, and lock sets for the Vivid and Sierra lines on the truck. Less common series parts are ordered from our OEM distributor and usually arrive in San Antonio within two to three business days. We don’t install parts we don’t trust, which is why we stick with OEM or proven equivalents from Caldwell and Prime-Line for Moen hardware. We also carry parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products for those doing broader renovation work.
