GAF Construction in San Antonio, TX | Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio
We provide independent GAF roof repair, replacement, and storm damage service across San Antonio, and we also offer Bathroom Remodeling - San Antonio homeowners trust. What makes our GAF work different here comes down to one thing: we’ve spent years learning how this city’s reactive clay soil and flash-drought sun cycles stress GAF systems in ways the national installation manuals never anticipated. If you own a GAF roof in San Antonio, call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll give you a straight answer. Written price before any work starts. Every time.
Why San Antonio Residents Choose Us for GAF Service

Isaac Pruett learned construction at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent two decades swinging hammers across the Southwest before putting down roots with Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio. His crew has worked GAF roofs from the historic limestone homes of King William to the 1970s doughnut-slab tracts off Vance Jackson, and they’ve seen what this climate does to shingles, flashing, and low-slope membranes. That experience shapes every GAF sales & service call we run in the city.
We’re independent. That matters more than homeowners expect. A manufacturer-authorized contractor pushes the product line they’re tied to. We don’t. We install GAF because it earns its place, and we repair it honestly, even when the honest answer is that patch won’t hold another San Antonio summer. We use genuine GAF replacement parts when they’re the right call, and we recommend high-quality aftermarket underlayment and flashing when the aftermarket product simply outperforms OEM in extreme heat and UV. Your roof gets what actually works here, not what a vendor relationship says it should get.

Common GAF Construction Problems We Solve in San Antonio
- Granule loss and cracking on south-facing and west-facing slopes. San Antonio’s summer sun beats on unshaded roof slopes until surface temperatures climb past 150°F. GAF Timberline shingles lose granules faster here than in almost any other Texas market. When the fiberglass mat starts showing through, you’re past repair territory and into replacement planning.
- Lifting and wind damage at eaves and rakes. Spring thunderstorm microbursts hit San Antonio hard, especially on the north and west sides. GAF shingles that weren’t nailed to the exact pattern lift at the edges first. We see this every March through May.
- Flashing failures around vent stacks and chimneys. This one is uniquely San Antonio. Clay soil shrinks in the summer dry spells, slabs shift, and the stack or chimney torques against the roof system. Standard pre-formed flashing can’t absorb the movement, so it splits. We custom-cut GAF-compatible flashing on site to handle the shift.
- Thermal splitting on EverGuard low-slope seams. By mid-afternoon in August, flat roof surfaces in San Antonio regularly exceed 160°F. GAF EverGuard PVC seams expand and contract dramatically, and older installations split along the weld lines. We repair the seams and re-weld rather than pushing a full tear-off when the membrane still has life.
- Storm damage assessment and insurance documentation. Hail and wind claims are part of life here. We walk the roof, photograph every damaged GAF shingle, and write up findings in plain language a homeowner can hand to an adjuster without needing a translator.
GAF Service in San Antonio: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s a fact you won’t find in any GAF installation manual. San Antonio sits on some of the most reactive clay soil in Texas, and in neighborhoods like Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills, a 1950s pier-and-beam house can drop an inch during a dry summer. Late August is when the most dramatic cracks appear overnight. Now run that movement through a roof assembly. A post-tension slab home shifting underneath its roof pushes fascia lines out of true, torques vent boots, and pulls flashing off the chimney. The standard pre-formed GAF flashing pieces, the ones sized to a static roof, don’t flex enough to survive it. Our team custom-cuts GAF flashing and vent boots on site for exactly this reason. It’s the difference between a repair that lasts five years and one that fails the next time the soil dries out.
GAF Models & Products We Service in San Antonio
We service the full GAF lineup that’s common in San Antonio: Timberline HDZ and UHDZ architectural shingles, Camelot II for homeowners who want a slate-shadow profile, and EverGuard PVC membranes for flat and low-slope commercial roofs. We keep a working stock of GAF ridge caps, starter strips, and the underlayment and flashing materials this climate actually demands, which means most San Antonio repairs don’t wait on a parts order. If a GAF part isn’t in stock, we tell you the lead time before we start, never after. And when the roof is beyond its service life, we’ll say so plainly and quote the replacement as part of the same estimate.

FAQs – GAF Construction in San Antonio
That’s thermal stress, and it peaks here in late August because San Antonio roof surfaces spend the hottest weeks of the year cycling between 100°F-plus daytime heat and much cooler overnight temperatures. GAF Timberline shingles expand and contract through those cycles, and the ridge line takes the most movement. By late summer, older shingles crack along the ridge. If the cracking is isolated, we can replace the damaged ridge caps. If it’s widespread, it’s usually a sign the roof is near the end of its service life. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in, with photos.
Underlayment tears can usually be repaired, yes. The repair depends on how large the tear is, whether water got underneath, and how old the GAF shingles above it are. A small tear under shingles in decent condition is a targeted repair we do all the time in San Antonio after spring storms. A large tear under shingles that are already granule-bald and 15 years old, that’s replacement territory. We’ll show you the photos and let the condition of the roof make the argument. Estimates are free.
Clay soil shrinks when it dries, which moves the slab, which torques whatever is attached to it: vent stacks, chimneys, skylight curbs. Flashing that was sealed tight a year ago slowly shifts out of position as the house moves. Standard pre-formed flashing is static, and a static part can’t absorb moving geometry. We custom-cut flashing on site so it follows the actual angles of your particular roof and stack, not the angles a factory mold assumes. That’s the fix that lasts through San Antonio’s dry-wet-dry cycles.
For most San Antonio homes, yes, if you’re already replacing the roof. UHDZ shingles are thicker, with wider exposure and a more dimensional profile. They handle wind uplift better, which matters during our spring thunderstorm season, and the heavier construction gives you more life under sustained UV exposure. The cost difference is modest compared to the full replacement cost. If your HDZ roof has five to eight years of life left, upgrading early doesn’t make financial sense. If you’re replacing anyway, we’ll quote both options and let you see the actual dollar difference.
Small blisters in an older EverGuard membrane are common here, and they’re a result of trapped moisture vaporizing under the intense San Antonio heat. The blister forms when the membrane’s bond weakens or the installation trapped moisture between layers. It’s common, but it’s not benign, because each blister is a place where the membrane can eventually crack. We evaluate the size and count. A few small, stable blisters on an otherwise sound membrane: monitor them. Large or spreading blisters: repair them before the next storm turns them into leaks. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll put eyes on your roof.
