Delta Bathroom Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you own a Delta fixture and a part has failed or is on its way out, we can match the exact replacement component, price the job in writing before we start, and handle the install. Delta bathroom remodeling in San Antonio typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 for a full remodel, but a single-part replacement, a valve swap, a cartridge, or a trim kit install usually lands between $150 and $1,200 depending on the series and what’s behind the wall. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a drip that won’t stop, a handle that spins without changing temperature, or a showerhead that’s gone from strong spray to a sad trickle. We keep common Delta repair parts on our trucks, and if we don’t have your specific cartridge or valve, we can typically have it in hand within one to two business days through our supplier network across San Antonio.
Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio is an independent remodeling and repair contractor. We’re not affiliated with Delta Faucet Company, but we’ve installed and repaired enough Delta product over the years to know exactly how each series behaves, what fails first, and what’s worth replacing versus what’s worth swapping for a newer design.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta has built bathroom fixtures under a long list of lines over the decades, and the compatibility gotchas are real. The big ones you’ll see in San Antonio homes: Monitor 13/14 series (the pressure-balancing tub/shower valve that’s been in production since the 1990s and is still one of the most common valves in Texas bathrooms), Monitor 17 series (adds a separate volume control and often a diverter for multiple shower functions), Trinsic (the modern slim-profile line), Cassidy, Dryden, Vero, and the Foundations builder-grade series. Each uses a different cartridge design, and within a series the trim kit and rough-in valve have to match. A Trinsic cartridge will not drop into a Monitor 13 valve body no matter how similar the handles look.
If you’re not sure which series you have, pull the trim plate and look for a small printed label on the valve body or the cartridge stem. Delta usually stamps the model number or series name right on the brass. Take a picture with your phone and text it to us or describe it over the phone. Before you decide between OEM and aftermarket, know this: for Delta specifically, the OEM cartridge is genuinely the better call in almost every case. Aftermarket equivalents for Monitor series cartridges are common, but we’ve seen too many of them fail inside a year, especially in San Antonio’s hard water. The mineral content in our water, particularly in older neighborhoods like Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills with aging supply lines, wears rubber seats and plastic internals faster than you’d see in a soft-water market. We’ll install aftermarket if a homeowner asks, but we’ll tell you straight that the OEM Delta part is the one we’d put in our own shower.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Delta Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- The handle spins freely or won’t stay at the temperature you set. This is almost always a worn cartridge. The internal pressure-balancing spool gets gummed up with mineral deposits or the rubber stops disintegrate. You’ll notice the water temperature drifts hot or cold when someone flushes a toilet or runs the washing machine.
- A steady drip from the tub spout or showerhead when the handle is off. The cartridge’s sealing surface has worn down. It’s not your washers, because Delta doesn’t use washers in these valves. The fix is a cartridge replacement, not a tightening job.
- Water pressure drops while the temperature stays fine. Sediment and hard-water scale have clogged the inlet screens on the valve or the showerhead’s flow restrictor. In San Antonio’s limestone-fed water supply, this is one of the most common service calls we run.
- The diverter stops switching between tub and shower completely, or only partially. On a Monitor 17 or a tub/shower with a separate diverter, the fault is usually a worn diverter stem or a failed internal seal. You’ll get water from both outlets at once, or a weak flow in both.
- You see water staining or a slight bulge in the drywall behind the valve. This is the one that needs attention now. A slow leak inside the wall cavity, often from a cracked valve body or a failed solder joint, will rot the framing and grow mold long before you can see it. By the time the paint blisters, the repair has moved from a $200 cartridge job to a $1,500 wall-opening job.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a straightforward Delta cartridge or valve replacement in San Antonio, here’s what you’re looking at:
- Cartridge replacement (Monitor 13/14/17, Trinsic, etc.): $150 – $400 installed, depending on the series and access
- Trim kit replacement (handle, plate, escutcheon): $200 – $800 installed, depending on finish and series
- Full shower valve replacement (new rough-in, cartridge, trim, and wall repair): $900 – $2,500 installed
- Complete Delta shower system install (valve, head, trim, and plumbing rough-in): $1,800 – $4,500 installed
- Full Delta bathroom remodel (fixture swap plus tile, pan, glass, and waterproofing): $9,000 – $28,000
The spread depends on whether your existing rough-in valve can be reused or whether the wall has to come open. If the valve body is cracked or the access is tight, the labor jumps. Every quote we give in San Antonio includes the part, the labor, the wall repair if we open it, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the install isn’t right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you. You’ll also get the technician’s name and photo before we arrive, and a written price before any work starts. No verbal estimate that grows on the final bill.

If all you’re doing is swapping a showerhead or a tub spout, that’s a 20-minute job most homeowners can handle with a wrench and some plumber’s tape. Cartridge replacement gets trickier. On a Delta Monitor valve, the retaining ring is often seized with mineral buildup, and if you wrench it the wrong way, you’ll crack the brass valve body, and now the wall gets opened. We’ve pulled more stripped retaining nuts out of San Antonio bathrooms than we can count. If water is your enemy, a hidden leak is the worst version of it. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll have someone to your house with the right cartridge, the right tool, and no drama. The quote is free.
FAQs

A Delta cartridge typically lasts 5 to 10 years in San Antonio’s hard water, though units in homes with water softeners often last 15 or more. The calcium and lime in our city water shorten the lifespan measurably compared to what you’d see in a soft-water region. If you’re replacing the same cartridge every couple of years, you may have a deeper water-quality issue worth addressing at the supply line.
Most failing Delta valves can be repaired with a new cartridge and seals. Replacement of the entire valve body is only necessary when the brass itself is cracked, the inlet threads are stripped, or the valve was installed incorrectly to begin with. We’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with before we start, and the price won’t change once we’re in the wall. Call (254) 269-5071 to schedule a diagnostic visit.
A standard cartridge or trim swap takes 45 minutes to 2 hours once we’re on site. If the wall has to be opened and the rough-in valve replaced, expect a full day, plus a return visit for drywall and paint after the plumbing is pressure-tested. We’ll give you the timeline in writing before work begins.
We keep the most common Delta cartridges, trim kits, and seals on our service vehicles, including Monitor 13/14 and Monitor 17 series parts. If your fixture needs a less common component or a specific finish, we source it through our supplier network and typically have it within one to two business days. Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio also works with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for full bathroom remodels, so a Delta fixture swap can easily expand into a larger remodel with one crew and one written price.
