Belgard Home Additions & ADU: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Belgard home additions and ADUs in San Antonio typically run $45,000 to $130,000 installed, depending on square footage, foundation work, and whether you’re tying into existing utility lines or running new ones. We install Belgard-compatible hardscape and wall materials on additions and accessory dwelling units across San Antonio, and we can usually get your project quoted within a few days of the first visit. Most owners reach out after noticing the original construction is failing at the connection points: a door that won’t close square, a floor that’s started to slope, or a joint pulling away where the addition meets the main structure.
If you’re reading this because your Belgard addition or ADU is showing cracks, pulling away at the roofline, or settling unevenly, you’re in the right place. This is the guide we wish every San Antonio homeowner had before they called us.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard makes hardscape systems more than they make entire buildings, so when we talk about Belgard home additions and ADUs, we’re talking about the outdoor-rated wall block, pavers, and retaining systems that either support or wrap the addition. The compatibility question matters because not every Belgard paver or wall block is rated for structural use. Their Dublin Cobble and Urbana paver lines work well for ADU walkways and patios, but if you need a retaining wall holding back soil against your addition, you need a segmental block system like BelAir Wall or Highland Stone, not a paver stacked on edge.
Here’s the gotcha we see in San Antonio regularly: homeowners (or a previous contractor) build a short wall out of pavers, then the clay soil here swells after a wet spring and the wall starts leaning into the addition. The fix isn’t patching the wall. It’s replacing it with a proper retaining system with drainage gravel and geogrid. If you’re not sure which Belgard product you have, check the underside of a paver or the back face of a wall block for a molded product code. Then measure the thickness in millimeters. We can match almost any Belgard paver or wall block that’s still in production, and for discontinued lines, we’ll find a color-blended equivalent that won’t look like a patch job.

Signs Your Belgard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Separation at the roofline or wall connection. This is the big one. If the addition’s roofline is pulling away from the main house by more than a quarter inch, the foundation is moving independently. In San Antonio’s expansive clay soil, that’s usually a sign the original foundation wasn’t trenched deep enough or the water wasn’t managed away from the slab.
- Doors that stick in summer and swing free in winter. Clay soil expands when wet and shrinks when dry. A door that changes behavior seasonally tells you the slab or pier system under the addition is moving. It’s a warning sign, not a cosmetic issue.
- Hairline cracks that widen at the corners of windows and doors. Small cracks are normal in any San Antonio structure. Cracks that run diagonally from a corner and grow past an eighth of an inch over six months are structural.
- Pavers settling or rocking around the addition perimeter. This can mean poor base compaction, which lets water pool near the foundation. That water is what’s causing the soil to swell and push against the structure. You fix the drainage first, then the pavers.
- Interior floors sloping toward an exterior wall. That slope usually means the perimeter foundation is sinking while the interior slab stays put. We see this in additions built on pier-and-beam systems when the piers weren’t set to the right depth for San Antonio soil.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Belgard-adjacent home addition in San Antonio, installed pricing runs $45,000 to $130,000. A small bump-out with hardscape and proper drainage might start at the low end. A detached ADU with a slab foundation, kitchenette, bathroom, and Belgard patio wrapping it will push toward $220,000, but the $45,000 to $130,000 range covers most additions under 800 square feet. What drives the price more than anything is what’s under the dirt: you need a soil test, and if the clay is highly expansive (common in the Medical Center and northwest areas of San Antonio), you’re either drilling piers or over-excavating and bringing in select fill.
We’re not affiliated with Belgard. We’re an independent San Antonio general contractor who installs Belgard products because they hold up in our climate. Every quote includes the written price before any work starts, line items for parts and labor, the permit fees, and the one-year Done Right Promise covering everything we build. A live person answers our phone around the clock, and every crew member who shows up arrives in uniform with a photo ID badge and their name and photo sent to you before the visit. That’s the Threshold Standard, and it applies on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look at where the addition meets the main house and note any gap wider than a quarter inch. Watch how water drains around the perimeter during a hard rain. Mark the ends of any existing cracks with pencil and date them, then check back in 60 days. Those observations help us price and scope faster.
What you shouldn’t do is start tearing out walls or releveling floors. That’s structural work, and there’s real risk of injury if a load-bearing wall comes out wrong or you uncover electrical or gas lines. We’ve seen homeowners in San Antonio spend thousands fixing a DIY “quick fix” that made the settlement worse. If you’re seeing any of the signs above, call us at (254) 269-5071 and we’ll send someone out to look. The estimate is free.
FAQs

Thirty to fifty years on the structure, but the hardscape around it may need attention at the fifteen to twenty-year mark. The clay soil in San Antonio moves constantly, and that’s the biggest factor in how long any addition stays true. Call (254) 269-5071 to have us look at yours and give you a real number.
Usually yes, if we catch it early. Pier installation, drainage correction, and joint repair can stabilize an addition for years. Once walls have shifted more than a couple of inches, a teardown and rebuild is often the cheaper long-term fix. Call (254) 269-5071 for a free inspection and we’ll tell you straight which one applies.
A small bump-out takes four to eight weeks. A full ADU with utilities takes three to six months, depending on permitting and weather. We’ll give you a written schedule with your written price. Call (254) 269-5071 to get started.
We keep the most common Belgard lines available through our San Antonio-area suppliers with quick turnaround. For less common or discontinued Belgard products, we’ll source a color-matched equivalent before your project starts.
