Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock Atlas-compatible driveway and paver components at Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio, and most replacement work runs between $500 and $4,500 installed depending on the scope. If you’ve got a cracked paver, a sunken section, or a failing edge restraint on an Atlas driveway, we can usually get the parts matched and the repair scheduled within a week. Homeowners typically discover the problem the same way: a paver shifts underfoot, a section dips after heavy rain, or the edge of the driveway starts spreading where it meets the lawn.
We’re an independent San Antonio service provider, not a division of Atlas. That independence means we can match your existing pavers by color, size, and series without pushing you into a full replacement you don’t need.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas manufactures paver lines in several series, and the compatibility specifics matter more than most homeowners expect. The most common Atlas pavers we see on San Antonio driveways are the Atlas Stone Series (a 60mm thick paver rated for vehicle traffic), the Atlas Permeable line (80mm, designed for drainage), and the Atlas Pro Series (a 80mm commercial-grade paver occasionally used on residential driveways here). A paver rated for a patio is not the same thickness as a paver rated for a driveway, and swapping in a thinner patio paver on a driveway creates a failure point within a year or two.
The fastest way to identify your exact Atlas paver is to measure it. Atlas Stone Series driveways in this region are almost always 60mm thick with a 4×8 inch face dimension. Permeable Atlas pavers run 80mm thick and have wider joints that can’t be filled with regular polymeric sand. If you can’t find a label, take a photo of the paver from the side profile and text it to us, or read the dimensions over the phone. We’ve been matching Atlas pavers across San Antonio long enough that we can usually identify the series from a description of the color and joint width.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Atlas OEM pavers are the safest match for color consistency, especially on driveways that are more than five years old. UV exposure in South Texas shifts paver color over time, and an aftermarket equivalent from a different manufacturer will never quite match a weathered Atlas paver, even when the original color name is identical. We stock common Atlas colors in the Stone and Pro Series on our trucks, and we order exact color-match Atlas pavers for older driveways where the stock color won’t blend.
We also carry compatible edge restraints and bedding materials, and our shop partners with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the rare project where a paver repair expands into a broader hardscaping or exterior update.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- A single paver sits noticeably higher than the surrounding surface. This usually means the paver itself cracked below the visible surface, or tree roots from a nearby San Antonio live oak are pushing up through the base. The high spot gets worse with every vehicle that passes over it.
- A visible dip or birdbath forms after rain. This is a base failure, not a paver failure. Years of clay soil movement under a San Antonio driveway compacts unevenly, and water pools where the base has settled. Just replacing the paver on top won’t fix it, the base has to be re-levelled first.
- Weeds sprout repeatedly in the same joints. Joint sand has washed out or broken down, and if it isn’t refilled and sealed, the pavers start shifting against each other and chipping at the corners. We see this more on Atlas driveways with original joint sand that was installed before the last few drought years hardened the soil and widened the gaps.
- The edge row along the lawn or curb is spreading outward. Edge restraint failure. Once that outside row loses containment, the whole field can slowly drift, and the cracks spread inward from the edge. This is the most common Atlas driveway issue we repair in San Antonio, especially on properties with expansive clay soil.
- You can hear a paver rock or click underfoot or under a tire. The paver is no longer bedded in sand; it’s sitting on a void. Every pass over that loose paver sends impact force into the pavers next to it, and a small problem turns into a six-foot repair quickly.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Antonio, Atlas driveway and paver repairs run on a few different price bands depending on what actually failed. Here’s what we quote most often:
- Single paver replacement (paver plus joint sand): $45 – $120 per paver installed, depending on color match and access.
- Localized base repair (sunken section up to 25 square feet): $500 – $1,200, which includes pulling the pavers, re-levelling the base, rescreeding, and re-setting the pavers.
- Edge restraint replacement (per linear foot): $12 – $25 per foot installed, including new restraint, spikes, and joint sand touch-up.
- Full driveway re-screed or partial paver replacement (100 – 300 square feet): $2,000 – $4,500 for larger failures where the base is intact but the surface has shifted broadly.
- Full paver driveway installation on a new base (if the existing base has failed completely): $7,000 – $18,000, consistent with what we charge for new paver driveway installation across San Antonio.
The range is driven by the square footage involved, whether the base layer needs to be excavated and rebuilt, and whether the paver color is one we stock or one we special-order for an exact match. Every repair quote includes the parts, labor, joint sand, and haul-off of the old material. You get a written price before we start, so nothing shifts once the work begins. The repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something on that repair fails within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver work is one of the safer exterior projects to handle yourself, and there are a few things worth checking on your own. You can inspect the edge restraint for gaps, photograph the damaged area for reference, and keep an eye on whether the problem worsens after rain. If a single paver is loose, you can often lift it out, see the condition of the sand beneath it, and put it back without doing any harm.
Where DIY goes wrong is base repair and any re-levelling work. If the driveway has settled, the base under the pavers has moved, and adding sand on top to make it look level is a temporary cover that will fail again within months. Improperly compacted base on a weight-bearing driveway also creates drainage problems that push water toward the foundation. For a driveway that vehicles drive on daily, the repair has to be right the first time. If you’d rather have us look at it, call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll get someone out to assess the area.
FAQs

An Atlas driveway paver installed on a properly compacted base typically lasts 25 to 40 years here, though the San Antonio climate shortens the life of the joint sand and base layers more than the paver itself. The pavers rarely wear out first; the failure point is almost always the base settling, the edge restraint letting go, or the joint sand washing out. The heat and clay soil movement force these repairs sooner than you’d see in cooler climates.
A cracked Atlas paver can’t be reliably glued or patched; once the paver is cracked, it should be replaced. A good color match on the replacement is the difference between an obvious patch and a repair that disappears into the driveway. Call (254) 269-5071 with the paver’s measurements, and we’ll tell you whether we carry that Atlas color locally or need to order it.
A single paver replacement takes under an hour, and most localized base repairs are done same day, though we let the base settle overnight before driving on the repaired section. Larger re-screed or section replacements run two to three days in San Antonio, depending on square footage and whether we need to bring in compacted base material.
We keep common Atlas Stone Series and Pro Series pavers on our trucks for single-paver and edge repairs. Permeable Atlas pavers and older or discontinued Atlas colors are special-ordered, which usually adds five to ten business days before we can schedule the install in San Antonio.
On a newer driveway, the match is close enough that you won’t spot it from the street. On an Atlas driveway that’s been in the Texas sun for more than five years, we recommend holding replacement pavers next to the existing field before installing, and if the match isn’t close enough we’ll order the closest available Atlas batch. Call us at (254) 269-5071 if you want the repair quoted first, estimates are free and there’s no obligation.
