American Standard Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install American Standard-compatible driveway and paver components across San Antonio, with typical installed replacement work running $5,000 – $14,000 depending on square footage, base condition, and access. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a paver that’s suddenly sitting proud of its neighbors, a low spot collecting water after the last storm, or a section of driveway that’s started shifting toward the street. You’re not looking at a cosmetic annoyance. You’re looking at a base failure, an edge restraint that’s let go, or a drainage issue that will get worse every time it rains.
We’re an independent San Antonio contractor, not a factory arm of American Standard. But we work with their paver and driveway product lines regularly, and we know exactly what fails first in this climate and what it costs to put right.
Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard’s driveway and paver line covers three product families: their interlocking concrete pavers, their permeable paver system, and their slab-style driveway units. The interlocking pavers are the most common in San Antonio, and they’re the ones we match most often. Before you order anything, check the back of a loose paver or the side of a full pallet. American Standard stamps a four-digit mold code into the paver’s underside. That code, plus the paver’s thickness (typically 60mm or 80mm), is what we need to match color and dimensions correctly.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most homeowners hit: American Standard changed their color-blend ratios in 2019. A paver from a 2017 batch in “Tan Ridge” will not match a 2023 batch with the same name. We account for that by pulling from the same dye lot when replacements are needed, or by blending new pavers across the affected area so the shift is invisible. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for American Standard products, we recommend staying with OEM pavers. The aftermarket equivalents look close in a showroom and wrong in your driveway. The dimensional tolerances are just loose enough that the joints never line up the way they should.

Signs Your American Standard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or rocking pavers. The sand bedding layer has washed out or compacted unevenly. In San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil, this usually traces back to water getting under the edge and eroding the base from the outside in.
- Widening joints between pavers. Edge restraint failure. Once the plastic or metal edging lets go, the whole field can creep, and you’ll see gaps grow fastest near the driveway’s outer edge.
- Water pooling in low spots after rain. The base has settled or washed out beneath a specific area. Left alone, standing water works into the joints and accelerates the washout.
- Efflorescence or white chalky film. Minerals wicking up through the paver. It’s cosmetic but signals prolonged moisture in the base, which is the real problem underneath.
- Cracked or spalled paver surfaces. Freeze-thaw cycling or a base that flexes under vehicle weight. We see this most often where delivery trucks or heavy pickups park in the same spot day after day.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Paver driveway installation in San Antonio runs $7,000 – $18,000 for a full replacement, while a repair or partial rebuild of a failed section typically lands between $5,000 and $14,000 for driveway replacement work. What drives the price: how much of the existing base can be salvaged, how deep we have to excavate to reach stable soil, driveway access for dump trailers and compactors, and whether you’re matching existing pavers or starting fresh with a new color.
Our quote includes removal and haul-off of the failed section, base repair, new bedding sand, the pavers themselves, edge restraint, joint sand, and compaction. You get a written price before any work starts, and the finished job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If something’s not right within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the driveway and flag every paver that rocks or sinks, run a hose on the surface to see where water pools, and check the edges for gaps where the restraint is peeking out. That information helps us quote the job faster.
What we don’t recommend is pulling pavers and re-setting them yourself. Once you lift one, the sand bed underneath is disturbed, the joint pattern won’t line back up the way it was, and you’ll likely end up with a patch that looks worse than the original failure. Clay soil in San Antonio doesn’t forgive an amateur base repair, and a paver job only works if the base and compaction are right. If you’re seeing movement, call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll assess it properly.
FAQs

American Standard pavers typically last 25 – 30 years in San Antonio when the base is installed correctly, though the bedding sand and joint sand need refreshing every 5 – 7 years. The pavers themselves rarely fail. What fails is what’s underneath them. Call (254) 269-5071 if you’re seeing movement, and we’ll tell you whether you need a base repair or a full reset.
In many cases, yes. If the movement is isolated to one area and the rest of the base is sound, we can excavate that section, rebuild the base, and re-set the pavers for $5,000 – $14,000 depending on size. If the failure runs edge to edge or water has washed out the entire base, a full replacement makes more financial sense. Call (254) 269-5071 for a written estimate on either path.
A full replacement usually takes 3 – 5 working days from tear-out to final compaction, weather permitting. A partial repair is often 1 – 2 days. We confirm the schedule in writing before work begins, and you’ll know exactly who’s coming and what they’re doing each day.
We keep common American Standard paver sizes and colors on hand at our San Antonio yard, and we order specific dye lots directly from the distributor when matching matters. If you have the mold code from the back of a loose paver, we can confirm stock on the first call. Reach us at (254) 269-5071.
