Tuff Shed Roofing: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock, match, and install Tuff Shed-compatible roofing across San Antonio, with most complete roof replacements on sheds running $800 to $2,500 installed depending on size and material. If your shed roof is leaking, sagging, or shedding shingles after a few Texas summers, we can usually diagnose it over the phone and have the right materials on the truck before we roll out. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a brown stain on stored holiday decorations, a musty smell in the corner, or a shingle in the yard after a spring thunderstorm.
We’re an independent San Antonio contractor, not a Tuff Shed dealer or affiliate. That matters because we’re not tied to one parts pipeline. We source OEM-grade Tuff Shed roofing components and quality aftermarket equivalents, and we tell you which one makes sense for your shed before you spend a dollar.
Which Tuff Shed Models This Applies To

We work on the full Tuff Shed line you’ll find across San Antonio backyards: the Sundance, Ranch, Premier, and Pro series, plus the older Sierra and Garden models still standing strong on the North Side and around Alamo Heights. The roofing system on most Tuff Sheds built in the last 15 years follows the same basic architecture: structural roof sheathing (usually 7/16″ OSB), 15-lb or 30-lb felt underlayment, and either 3-tab asphalt shingles or metal roofing panels, depending on what the original owner selected.
The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: Tuff Shed roofs are built on either 4′ or 8′ truss spacing depending on the shed width, and that determines how much structural support your roof replacement needs before new decking goes down. An 8′ span on a 20-year-old San Antonio shed that’s been through two hailstorms often needs additional framing support. We check that on every quote. On the parts side, if your shed has Tuff Shed’s proprietary ridge cap and eave trim on a metal roof, OEM is usually the better call, because aftermarket trim profiles rarely match the original screw-line spacing. For asphalt shingles, a good architectural shingle from GAF or CertainTeed actually outperforms what most sheds shipped with originally, and it costs about the same.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Tuff Shed Roofing Is Failing
- Water staining on the interior roof deck or walls. This is the most common first signal. By the time you see it, the underlayment has already been compromised somewhere, and the leak path may be several feet from the visible stain. San Antonio’s intense summer sun bakes shingles until they crack at the nail line, which lets water in at the highest point of the roof.
- Curling or missing shingles after a storm. Wind-rated shingles lose their grip over time, especially after the repeated heat-cycling of a Texas July. If you find shingles in the yard or see bare sheathing from across the yard, the roof’s first line of defense is gone and the clock is ticking on underlayment failure.
- Sagging or soft spots when you press on the roof deck. This means the OSB sheathing has absorbed moisture and lost structural integrity. We see this most often on San Antonio sheds where sprinklers hit the roofline or where tree cover kept the roof damp through the winter months.
- Rust perforation on metal roofs, especially at the screw lines. Every screw on a metal roof is a potential leak point. Once the rubber washers under the screws dry out and crack, water follows the screw threads into the framing. On the south-facing slope, which takes the brunt of the sun, the metal itself can start rusting around those penetrations within a decade.
- Granule buildup in the gutters or at the base of the downspout. Asphalt shingles shed granules as they age, and on the tail end of their life they shed a lot. If you can see the black fiberglass mat through the granules on the shingle surface, the shingle is no longer protecting the roof and every storm that rolls through San Antonio is doing structural damage.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard 8’x10′ or 10’x12′ Tuff Shed in San Antonio, a full asphalt shingle roof replacement typically runs $800 to $1,800 installed. Larger sheds with more roof area, sheds requiring new decking, or metal roof replacements run $1,500 to $2,500. That’s parts, labor, tear-off of the old roofing, disposal, and new underlayment, all priced in writing before we start.
What drives the range: roof size and pitch, the condition of the decking below, whether we’re going back with shingles or metal, and the style of the trim and drip edge. We don’t do change orders on shed roofs unless we uncover substantial hidden rot, and if that happens, you’ll see the price before we touch it. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair or install isn’t right within a year of completion, we return and make it right at no charge. Isaac Pruett has been rebuilding roofs like this long enough to know that the leak you’re hoping isn’t serious usually is, and that checking the decking before quoting saves everyone a headache later.
DIY or Call Us?
If you just need to know whether the roof is failing, you can safely check for visible staining on the inside of the roof deck, missing shingles from the ground, and soft spots if you’re comfortable on a ladder. That’s information gathering, and it helps us give you an honest phone estimate before we come out.
Where DIY goes wrong on Tuff Shed roofing is in the repair itself. Most shed roofs have a shallow pitch, which makes them look walkable, but the decking underneath may be rotted and a foot through the sheathing is a hospital trip you don’t need. We also regularly see homeowners patch a leak with roofing cement and have the water simply move further down the deck, rotting out more sheathing before it finds the next seam. If the deck is wet or soft, don’t stand on it. Call us at (254) 269-5071 and we’ll come look at it with the right materials on the truck to fix it the first time.
FAQs

A Tuff Shed roof with standard 3-tab shingles lasts about 10 to 15 years in San Antonio’s heat, and a metal roof usually lasts 20 to 30 years before the screw washers fail and need replacing. The sun is the primary killer here, not rain, which is why the south-facing slope always goes first.
We can repair isolated damage, like a wind-lifted shingle or a leaking screw line on a metal roof, and those repairs typically run $400 to $1,800 based on the roof repair pricing for the San Antonio market. But if the shingles are curling broadly or the decking is soft, a patch simply won’t hold, and replacement is the cheaper option within two or three years. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in based on what you see.
A standard Tuff Shed roof replacement takes one day for tear-off and installation, including cleanup and haul-away, on most San Antonio sheds. Metal roof replacements on larger sheds can stretch into a second day. We’ll tell you the schedule when we give you the written price.
We stock the common Tuff Shed-compatible roofing components on the truck: 7/16″ OSB decking, underlayment, architectural shingles in standard colors, metal roof screws, drip edge, and trim. If your shed needs an unusual OEM metal profile or a discontinued color, we’ll source it before your install date and show you the exact cost in writing. We also maintain parts relationships across brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, but for Tuff Shed roofing, the right materials are usually already in our San Antonio inventory.
Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s covered – that’s the whole job before the job starts.
If your Tuff Shed roof is showing any of the signs above, call Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio at (254) 269-5071. We’ll walk through what you’re seeing over the phone, give you a straight answer on whether it’s a patch or a replacement, and put the price in writing before any work begins.
