Cover Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Cover fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, depending on the fence type, linear footage, and ground conditions. We keep Cover-compatible fence components stocked and can match your existing system without guesswork. Most owners discover a failed Cover fence part the same way: they hear a section rattling against the house during one of our spring wind gusts, or they spot a gate dragging that never dragged before. A fence is only as good as its weakest post, and in San Antonio’s shallow, shifting clay, weak points announce themselves fast.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover sells several fence and screen enclosure lines, and the part numbers matter. The Cover Seclusions line uses a different post profile than the older Cover FenceMate series, and mixing them causes alignment failures within months. Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see on nearly every San Antonio job: homeowners buy a Seclusions panel and try to hang it on FenceMate posts because the mounting holes almost line up. Almost. The post channels differ by 3/16 of an inch, and that gap means the panel sits proud of the post face and lets water behind the mounting screws. In our humidity, that turns into rust streaks and loosened panels within a season.
How to identify what you have: remove one panel and look at the post’s interior channel. FenceMate posts have a single rectangular channel. Seclusions posts have a channel with a small return lip at the top edge. If you see a sticker, the series is printed there, but sun-faded labels are common after two Texas summers. OEM Cover parts cost more but match exactly. Quality aftermarket equivalents from our suppliers are machined to the same channel dimensions and hold up fine when installed by someone who checks the fit before driving screws. We’ll tell you honestly which route makes sense for your specific fence.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate post wobble at the base. San Antonio clay expands with rain and shrinks in drought, cracking the concrete footing around the post. Once the post moves, the gate pulls the rest of the panel run out of square.
- Panels rattling against the house mounting track. The wall channel screws have worked loose, usually because the installer missed studs or used the wrong length fastener. Loose panels stress the panel joints and accelerate failure.
- Powder-coated finish flaking in less than five years. This points to either a factory coating defect or, more commonly, sprinkler overspray hitting the fence daily. San Antonio hard water leaves mineral deposits that eat into the finish.
- Gate latch no longer catching even after adjustment. The hinge side has sagged. Hinges pull out of the post when they were originally set with short screws into thin post walls.
- Fence line heaving upward at one post. That’s a root system or, on older properties, buried construction debris shifting beneath the post. It’s a footing problem, not a panel problem, and it won’t fix itself.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Antonio, most Cover fence installations we handle fall between $3,500 and $9,000. At the low end, you’re looking at a straightforward panel swap and hardware replacement on an existing post run in good condition. At the high end, we’re digging new post footings, resetting gate hardware, and replacing the house mounting track. The biggest price drivers are linear feet, whether posts need to be reset in concrete, and whether your existing concrete pad or pavers have to be cut to access post locations.
Every quote we give is a written, line-item price delivered before work starts. No verbal estimate that grows into a surprise invoice. Parts are listed separately from labor so you can see exactly what the Cover components cost and what our installation time runs. The work is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything about the installation fails within a year of the completion date, we come back and make it right at no charge. That includes a free return visit if a panel loosens or a gate sags.
DIY or Call Us?
The safe DIY checks are worth doing before calling us. Confirm which Cover series you have by checking the post channel the way we described above. Measure the fence line. Note which panels are loose, which posts wobble, and whether the gate sags. That information makes our first visit faster and your written quote more accurate.
Where DIY goes wrong is the part that looks easy: pulling a leaning post straight and packing more dirt around it. Post stability comes from the concrete footing, not the soil on top. Tension on the fence is high at the corners, and a post that snaps back while you’re working on it can crack bone. We also see plenty of stripped post walls from homeowners driving hardware-store screws into Cover’s thin channel walls because the screw looked close enough. It wasn’t, and the fix costs more than calling us first would have. If any post is moving, stop and call (254) 269-5071. We’ll send someone who knows exactly what they’re looking at.
FAQs

Expect 12 to 18 years from properly installed Cover posts and panels in San Antonio’s climate, with the gate hardware needing replacement around year 8 on average. Sun exposure on south-facing runs fades the powder coat faster than north-facing sections. If a fence fails inside five years, it’s almost always a footing or mounting problem, not a panel problem. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll diagnose it.
Minor panel dents and scratches can be repaired if the panel’s internal frame is still intact, but any panel with a cracked frame or bent mounting channel should be replaced. A bent channel pulls the adjacent panels out of alignment and transfers stress to the posts. We’ll always quote repair when it will genuinely hold.
A panel and hardware swap on existing posts typically takes one day. If we’re resetting posts in concrete, plan for two to three days because the concrete needs time to cure before we hang panels. We’ll give you the completion window in your written quote and it won’t stretch without us telling you why.
We keep the most common Cover-compatible panels, post channels, gate hardware, and mounting track in stock and ready to install. Rare or discontinued Cover series parts take 5 to 10 business days to source, and we’ll tell you before you commit whether your fence needs a special-order component. Call (254) 269-5071 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
