Quikrete Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you’re mid-remodel with Quikrete products and a countertop pour, mortar bed, or surface coat has failed, we stock Quikrete-compatible materials on our trucks and can usually match and repair or rebuild the affected area within a few days of your call, not weeks. A full Quikrete-based kitchen remodel in San Antonio runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on square footage, counter surface choice, and whether we’re repairing a failed area or starting fresh. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a hairline crack opens in a countertop or floor bed, water finds it, and within a week the crack is a chip and the chip is a missing corner.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To
Quikrete isn’t a single product line in the way KraftMaid is for cabinetry or Cambria and Silestone are for quartz surfaces. It’s a brand of concrete, mortar, and surface-prep products used inside kitchen remodels. Our San Antonio crews work with three Quikrete families most often: Countertop Mix (the 80-lb bag formulation with a fine aggregate designed for pour-in-place counters), the Floor Mud / Sand Topping Mix used for setting shower pans and leveling subfloors before tile, and the Polymer-Modified Mortars that bond porcelain or stone tile to a kitchen floor or backsplash. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: Quikrete Countertop Mix is not the same as Quikrete 5000 or standard concrete mix. Using a general-purpose concrete for a countertop gives you a gritty, porous surface that stains immediately and cracks under normal use. We match the specific product and batch type to the original install when we can, and we’ll tell you honestly when a color or texture match isn’t possible, which happens often with pours older than five years.

Signs Your Quikrete Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Hairline cracks running through a poured countertop – almost always from a mix that was too wet when poured or a sub-base that flexed after curing. Water gets in, then San Antonio’s heat-and-humidity swings widen the crack seasonally.
- Chalky residue or pitting on the surface – this is efflorescence or acid etching, usually from the wrong sealer or no sealer. It means the wear layer is gone and the concrete is exposed.
- Tile cracking or lifting in a floor bed – the Quikrete Sand Topping Mix underneath has broken down or wasn’t packed to the right depth. In older San Antonio homes with pier-and-beam foundations, this is common as floors shift slightly with the seasons.
- Grey dust collecting in cabinet bases below the counter – that’s the concrete surface eroding. It will only get worse, and it means the counter is shedding material into your cooking area.
- Stains that won’t wipe off, even after sealing – unsealed or under-sealed Quikrete absorbs oil, wine, and tomato sauce permanently. Once the stain is deep, refinishing is the fix, not cleaning.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Quikrete-related kitchen work in San Antonio, the installed price depends on how much of the original surface we’re rebuilding and what’s underneath it.

| Small kitchen remodel with concrete countertop | $9,000 – $20,000 |
| Countertop removal & Quikrete pour-in-place replacement | $2,000 – $6,500 |
| Floor mud bed repair under existing tile | $800 – $2,500 |

You can safely inspect a failed Quikrete surface yourself: check for cracks wider than a credit card, look under the sink cabinet to see if moisture is coming through, and note whether the counter flexes when you press on it with both palms. What we don’t recommend is mixing and pouring countertop material as a DIY fix. The mix ratios, packing, and curing control are precise, and once a bad pour sets, removing it is a jackhammer level job. If you have a crack that’s primarily cosmetic and you’re okay with the imperfection, a high-quality concrete sealer will buy you a year or two. If the surface is failing structurally, call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll get an exact quote together.
FAQs

A properly poured, sealed Quikrete countertop in San Antonio lasts 15 to 25 years, but the sealer itself needs reapplication every year or two because our summer heat and hard tap water break it down faster than the label suggests.
Hairline cracks and chips under a quarter inch can be routed and filled with a color-matched concrete patch, but once cracking is structural or the surface has deep stains, replacement is usually the only honest fix. We’ll tell you which one applies to your counter before any work is scheduled.
A small repair is one day of work plus 24 hours of cure time. A full countertop replacement takes three to four days including demolition, forming, pouring, curing, and sealing.
Yes. Our San Antonio crews carry Quikrete Countertop Mix, Sand Topping Mix, polymer-modified mortars, and compatible sealers, and if your project needs a product we don’t have on board, we get it from a local San Antonio supplier the same day. Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Quikrete.
Who You’ll See at the Door
We’re part of the Threshold Group, and every job follows what we call the Threshold Standard. Before any crew member arrives, you get their name and photo. At the door, they carry a photo ID badge and wear a marked uniform. No stranger in an unmarked pickup. Isaac Pruett learned construction at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent two decades running jobs across the Southwest before building our San Antonio crew, and he still checks every Quikrete repair scope personally. Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s covered – that’s the whole job before the job starts.
