Techo-Bloc Home Additions & ADU: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We install and build home additions and ADUs using Techo-Bloc hardscape and wall products throughout San Antonio, with most full addition projects running $45,000 to $130,000 and standalone ADU construction typically falling between $90,000 and $220,000. Our crews stock common Techo-Bloc pavers, wall blocks, and caps on the truck, so if a section of your existing Techo-Bloc patio, retaining wall, or walkway has shifted or failed as part of a larger addition, we can match and repair it while the build is underway. The call usually starts the same way: a homeowner walks out one morning and notices a paver has risen, a cap stone has cracked, or a section of wall has started leaning where it meets the new addition. What we’ve learned from years of San Antonio jobs is that Techo-Bloc products rarely fail on their own. The failure almost always traces back to what’s happening underneath them: clay soil movement, water routing, or a base that was never compacted right in the first place.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To
Techo-Bloc manufactures product lines across several series, and the compatibility details matter when you’re tying an addition into an existing hardscape. The most common lines we work with in San Antonio are the Blu 60, Blu 80, and Victorien paver series, along with the Mini-Creta and Borealis wall systems. Each series has its own joint spacing, thickness tolerance, and color blend, and you cannot reliably mix a Blu 60 paver into a Victorien field without visible seams and height differences. If you still have the original paperwork, look for the product code printed on the delivery pallet or on your original invoice. If not, measure the paver or block: Blu 60 pavers run 60mm thick, Blu 80 runs 80mm, and the wall blocks vary from 3 inches to 6 inches depending on the series. We can also identify the color blend from a single removed paver, since Techo-Bloc’s San Antonio distribution tends to favor the Shale Grey and Chestnut Brown blends in this region. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, Techo-Bloc does not license third-party manufacturers, so any paver or block we install as a match is either genuine Techo-Bloc inventory or a color-matched equivalent from a reputable yard. Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Techo-Bloc, but we buy directly from regional Techo-Bloc distributors, which means the product you get is the real thing, not a lookalike.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Home Addition & ADU Hardscape Is Failing
- Pavers rising or sinking near the foundation line. San Antonio’s clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and when a home addition changes drainage patterns, the sub-base under existing pavers shifts. A raised paver at the transition point means water is moving where it didn’t before.
- Cap stones cracking at the top of a retaining wall. Techo-Bloc cap blocks are dense, but they crack when the wall behind them has moved. The cap is the first thing to show stress, and it’s almost always a wall drainage issue, not a defective block.
- Gaps opening between wall blocks near a new ADU foundation. When we excavate for an ADU slab, vibration and soil displacement can unsettle an adjacent wall. Gaps wider than a quarter inch at the block face mean the wall is racking and needs to be addressed before it gets worse.
- Water pooling against wall or paver edges after rain. A Techo-Bloc install should shed water, not hold it. Standing water at the joint line means the base is saturated, and in San Antonio’s clay-heavy neighborhoods like Alamo Heights and the areas west of 410, that saturation is what eventually moves the whole field.
- Efflorescence or white dust on the block face. This is mineral salt being pulled through the concrete by moisture. It’s not structural on its own, but it tells you water is traveling through the wall, and water always wins if you give it time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
When hardscape repair is part of a larger home addition or ADU project in San Antonio, the line item typically runs $3,500 to $11,000 for a full paver patio rebuild and $7,000 to $18,000 for a paver driveway replacement, depending on square footage and base condition. If we’re repairing a section rather than rebuilding a whole field, the cost usually falls between $1,200 and $4,500 including removal, base correction, new Techo-Bloc product, and reinstallation. The biggest variable is what’s under the surface: if the original base was built with less than 6 inches of compacted road base, we’re going to have to cut it out and start over, and that’s where the price moves. Every line item is written out before we start, no verbal ballpark that grows on the final invoice. The workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if something shifts or settles within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no charge. Techo-Bloc’s own product warranty covers manufacturing defects on the blocks themselves, and we handle the paperwork on that so you’re not chasing a warranty claim on your own.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect a few things on your own: look for the water pooling I described, check for gaps at the joints, and run your hand across the surface to feel for any paver that rocks underfoot. That tells you what’s failing. What I would not recommend is pulling pavers up yourself. Once you break the edge restraint, the whole field can start migrating, and putting it back properly requires compaction equipment, a plate tamper, fresh bedding sand, and the skill to know when the base needs to be rebuilt rather than just topped off. If you’ve got a retaining wall leaning more than a few degrees, stay clear of it: a leaning wall can shift suddenly, and that’s not a risk worth taking. Call us at (254) 269-5071 and we’ll come out, assess what’s moving, and give you a written price for the repair before any work starts. That’s how we do every job in San Antonio.
FAQs

With a properly built base, Techo-Bloc pavers and wall blocks routinely last 25 to 40 years in San Antonio, with the paver surface itself often outlasting the base underneath it. The product doesn’t fail; the installation does, and most repairs we do are correcting base or drainage problems rather than replacing worn-out block. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll tell you what’s actually failing before you spend a dollar.
Yes, in most cases we can repair a section rather than rebuild the entire patio, as long as the base under that section is still sound and the block itself isn’t fractured. If the base has washed out or the edge restraint has failed, a section repair won’t hold, and we’ll tell you so before giving you a price. Call (254) 269-5071 for a free inspection and a written line-item quote.
A section repair on a patio or walkway is typically one to two days on site, while a full paver patio rebuild runs three to five days depending on square footage and access. A retaining wall rebuild that requires base excavation can take a week or more. We’ll give you a start date, a completion date, and the names of the crew coming to your home before we ever set a tool on the ground.
We stock the common Techo-Bloc series in our San Antonio warehouse, including Blu 60, Blu 80, and Mini-Creta wall blocks in the region’s most common color blends. For specialty colors or less common series, we order directly from Techo-Bloc’s Texas distributor, and we handle the full lead time so you’re not chasing a delivery. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll check stock while you’re on the phone.
Know who’s coming, know what it costs, know it’s covered – that’s the whole job before the job starts. Isaac Pruett has been working Techo-Bloc installs and repairs across San Antonio for years, and his crew treats every paver field like it’s the one in front of their own front door. We also work with KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone surfaces on our full addition and ADU builds, so the hardscape and the structure it serves come from one accountable team.
