Ameristar Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Ameristar fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a standard residential perimeter, depending on linear footage, panel height, and whether we’re setting new posts or working with existing structure. We match Ameristar’s Montage, Classic, and commercial-grade panel systems to your specific lot, and we can usually schedule installation within 5 to 10 business days once materials are confirmed. Most San Antonio homeowners don’t call us because the whole fence failed. They call because one section went bad, a gate post loosened in the clay soil, or a previous installer set posts too shallow for the freeze-thaw cycles we get north of Loop 1604. The problem is never the steel. Ameristar makes a solid panel. The problem is almost always the installation underneath it.
We’re an independent San Antonio contractor. We’re not affiliated with Ameristar, but we’ve been installing and repairing their fence systems long enough to know exactly which post depth works in Stone Oak versus Alamo Heights, and which panel style holds up best against the wind gusts that hit the west side of town.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

The short answer: if you have an Ameristar steel fence, we can source and install parts for it. The three lines we see most often in San Antonio yards are Montage, Classic, and the heavier commercial panels that occasionally end up on residential properties with steep grades or security needs. Montage is the residential workhorse. Classic leans more ornamental with picket spacing that tends to be narrower. Here’s what matters for parts matching, and it’s the first thing Isaac Pruett checks when he walks a job: Ameristar panels are manufactured in specific heights, usually 4, 5, 6, and 8 feet, and the post dimensions change with panel height. A 6-foot panel needs a 2-inch-square post. An 8-foot panel needs a 2.5-inch post with a heavier wall thickness. Homeowners who try to order parts online often buy the right panel and the wrong post, then wonder why the gate sags in six months.
When we quote an Ameristar fence installation or repair in San Antonio, we specify OEM parts first. Ameristar’s galvanized coating process is genuinely better than most aftermarket equivalents, and in a climate where we get 30+ inches of rain a year plus Gulf humidity, that matters. If an aftermarket post or bracket is appropriate, we’ll tell you exactly where it’s going and why it won’t shorten the fence’s life. We don’t swap parts to pad the invoice. We swap them when the OEM piece would be a waste of your money.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags or catches at the latch. This is almost never the gate. It’s the post. In San Antonio’s expansive clay soil, posts that weren’t set below the frost line heave upward in winter and settle in summer. The gate stays square; the ground moves it out of square.
- Panel flexes when you push on it. Ameristar steel is rigid. If a section wiggles, the bracket screws have backed out or the post concrete has cracked. Either way, wind load now has a way in. A loose section in a spring thunderstorm is the section that ends up in your neighbor’s yard by morning.
- Rust along the bottom rail. This is the telltale sign of posts set too close to grade or sprinkler heads spraying directly into the rail. Ameristar’s coating is good, but constant irrigation exposure will eat any steel eventually. We see this constantly off Hausman Road where yards are heavily landscaped.
- Post leaning without any visible damage. Shallow concrete. That’s it. A post set 18 inches deep in San Antonio soil will lean within two years. We set posts 24 to 30 inches deep depending on the panel height. It’s more concrete and more labor, and it’s the single biggest reason cheap fence quotes come back to haunt homeowners.
- Gate post wrenching sideways when the gate is open. The gate’s entire weight is hanging off one post. If that post wasn’t set deep, or if the original installer used dry-mix concrete instead of wet-pour, the post will keep rotating. You can retighten the hinges five times. It won’t fix the foundation.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For San Antonio homes, expect to spend $3,500 to $9,000 for a full Ameristar fence installation. A partial repair, like replacing a failed gate post or swapping out one section, typically falls between $400 and $1,800, depending on how much concrete work is involved. The spread comes down to three things: total linear feet, panel height, and how many posts need to be pulled and reset versus new construction. Steel fence pricing is pretty flat. Labor and concrete are what move the number.
Every quote from us is written, not verbal, and it’s the price. No change orders because we hit rock. No surprise line for “disposal fees” on the day of install. We pull the old posts, haul everything off, set new posts at the correct depth with wet-pour concrete, mount the panels with Ameristar-compatible brackets, and square every gate before we leave. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If anything fails within a year of completion, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
An Ameristar steel panel is not dangerous to work with. There’s no spring tension and no electrical component. What’s dangerous is underestimating how heavy a 6-foot steel panel is and how much concrete goes into a proper post hole. A 6-foot Ameristar panel section weighs enough that a gust of wind while you’re holding it will put you on the ground. Two people can handle a single section repair. A full perimeter replacement for an average San Antonio lot is not a weekend project, and it is not something we’d recommend tackling without a post-hole digger that can go 30 inches down into rocky Hill Country soil.
If you want to check something before calling, look at your post bases. Dig down about 4 inches next to a gate post and see if you hit concrete. If you hit dirt above 18 inches of concrete, that post was never going to survive. That’s a call to us. In fact, that’s the call: (254) 269-5071. We’ll come out, measure, and give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs

A properly installed Ameristar fence with deep-set posts should last 25 to 30 years in San Antonio. The steel is the last thing to fail. The failure points are posts, brackets, and gate hinges, and those fail because of installation shortcuts, not defective product. If your fence is leaning at year three, the material didn’t fail. The installation did.
Yes. Replacement panels and posts can be matched to your existing Ameristar line, and we do single-section and single-post repairs all the time. The one honest caveat is color. Ameristar’s finish weathers slightly over time, so a brand new panel next to a ten-year-old panel won’t match perfectly. Most homeowners find it acceptable. If you wouldn’t, tell us and we’ll treat the new panel to blend it in.
A full residential Ameristar fence installation in San Antonio typically takes 3 to 5 working days from start to finish. A single post replacement or one-section repair is usually done in half a day. The schedule depends on materials availability and how many post holes need to be augered through rock. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll give you a timeline with the written estimate.
We keep common Ameristar Montage and Classic brackets, gate hardware, and post caps on our trucks. Full panels and posts are special-ordered to match your specific height and finish, which usually takes 5 to 7 business days. We’re an independent contractor and source Ameristar parts through our regular supply channels. We’ll never tell you a part is “on backorder” unless it actually is, and we’ll show you the order confirmation if you want to see it.
