ViewLux Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install ViewLux-compatible driveway and paver components throughout San Antonio, with most driveway and paver jobs running $3,500 to $18,000 depending on scope, material, and site conditions. Our trucks carry the common failure points so a single visit usually resolves the issue. When a ViewLux paver driveway starts showing problems, homeowners typically notice it after heavy rain: sunken sections, loose or cracked pavers, edge separation, or standing water that wasn’t there the season before.
The ViewLux name covers a range of interlocking concrete paver systems, and the failure is rarely the paver itself. It’s usually what’s underneath. San Antonio’s clay-heavy soils shift with moisture, and when the base layer wasn’t compacted properly during the original install, the surface tells you about it within a few seasons. Isaac Pruett has pulled up enough of these driveways across the city to tell you the paver is usually fine. The base, the edge restraint, and the joint sand are where the trouble lives.
Key takeaway: A failed ViewLux driveway in San Antonio is almost always a base or edge problem, not a paver problem. The good news: repairs are usually measured in sections, not full replacements, and a written price comes before any work starts.
We’re an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with ViewLux, but we work on their paver systems regularly and know which components match which product lines.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux doesn’t put a model number on individual pavers the way an appliance manufacturer stamps a serial number. Compatibility comes down to color line, thickness, and pattern style. The most common ViewLux lines we service in San Antonio are the Holland/Architectural series (rectangular, typically 60mm or 80mm thick), the Tumbled/Cobble series (irregular edges, 60mm), and the Permeable/Aqua series (wider joint gaps designed for drainage, 80mm).
To identify your paver, flip one over. Look for a four-digit batch code printed on the underside. The first two digits are the year, the second two are the batch. It won’t name the series, but it helps a supplier match dye lot, and dye lot matters: two batches of the “same” color can differ enough that a patched section looks like a patch for years. We photograph the paver, measure the thickness with calipers, and match both dimensions and color before quoting a repair.
OEM ViewLux pavers are still produced for the main lines, but for discontinued colors we work with quality aftermarket equivalents from Techo-Bloc and Belgard. Our hardscaping partnerships give us access to professional-grade product that matches what ViewLux originally sold. If exact OEM isn’t available, we’ll tell you before you spend anything, and we’ll show you the alternative in daylight, not under a showroom lamp.
San Antonio-specific note: the 80mm paver is the better call for driveways here. We’ve seen 60mm Holland-style ViewLux pavers crack under the combination of our summer heat and heavier vehicles. If your current driveway is 60mm and you’re doing a full replacement, we’ll recommend stepping up.

Signs Your ViewLux Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or dipping sections. Base compaction failed or water has washed fine material out from under the pavers. We see this most often near the street edge, where the original installer under-compacted the base transition.
- Edge pavers drifting outward. The plastic or aluminum edge restraint is broken or was never installed. Without it, the outside rows of a ViewLux driveway creep sideways under vehicle weight, especially when cars cut the turn radius tight.
- Cracked or chipped pavers in the wheel tracks. This is the 60mm-thickness problem. Loads concentrate in two lines, and if the sand layer below is too thick or uneven, the paver snaps. Replacing a single paver is cheap. Replacing the same spot twice is a base problem.
- Standing water after rain. Joint sand has washed out and the surface has lost its slope, or the base is holding water against the pavers. San Antonio’s flash-rain pattern accelerates this. Water sitting more than an hour after the rain stops means drainage isn’t working.
- Weeds or ants pushing up through the joints. Joint sand got replaced by organic material, which plants and ants love. It’s a maintenance issue in year one, but left alone, it erodes the interlock and accelerates the bigger failures.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For San Antonio ViewLux driveway work, here’s the pricing picture we quote every week:
- Sectional paver repair (under 100 sq ft): $1,200 to $3,500, depending on how much base rebuilding the spot needs.
- Full paver driveway installation: $7,000 to $18,000 for a typical two-car drive. The spread is driven by total square footage, access for equipment, whether we’re hauling away the old surface, and the paver thickness you choose.
- Paver patio installation: $3,500 to $11,000, with the same variables minus the vehicle load requirements.
- Concrete driveway (if you decide to switch): $4,500 to $12,000 installed.
- Asphalt driveway (comparison option): $3,500 to $9,000.
Every quote includes removal of the old material, base prep and compaction to spec, new paver or concrete install, edge restraint, joint sand, and cleanup. The written price is delivered before work starts, and it doesn’t change mid-job. If we hit something unexpected underground, we stop, explain it, and give you a new written number before touching it. The warranty is in writing too: 365 days from completion. If something fails in that window, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things an owner can safely check. You can confirm paver thickness by pulling one from an edge. You can watch where water pools after rain and photograph it. You can clean out joint sand with a leaf blower on low, though that’s maintenance, not repair. What we don’t recommend is lifting a sunken section and adding sand underneath. It feels simple, but you’re working blind on the base, and adding sand above a failed base buys you one season before the same spot sinks again.
If you’re dealing with cracked pavers in both wheel tracks, edge spreading, or water that won’t drain, that’s a base and slope job. It means pulling the section, rebuilding the sub-base in lifts, re-compacting, and re-setting the pavers. It’s not a weekend project, and doing it wrong means doing it twice. We’re happy to take the phone call before you start pulling pavers up: (254) 269-5071. A quick conversation can save you from making the problem bigger.
FAQs

With a properly compacted base and the right paver thickness, a ViewLux driveway in San Antonio should last 20 to 30 years on the pavers themselves, while the joint sand needs topping off every 2 to 3 years. The base is the real variable: five seasons on a bad base can look worse than 20 years on a good one. Call (254) 269-5071 if you suspect your base is the problem, and we’ll give you an honest look with a written estimate.
Isolated failures are repairable: we pull the affected section, rebuild the base, and re-set the pavers. The paver itself usually survives. Full replacement is only needed when the base failure runs across most of the driveway, or the color and dye-lot matching would leave the repair visibly out of place. Most San Antonio homes we see are in the repair category, not replacement. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll put a number on it.
A sectional repair of 50 to 100 square feet typically takes one to two days. A full driveway replacement runs three to five working days from tear-out to final joint sand, weather permitting. We walk off the job site after we lay drop cloths and clean up, and you get a written schedule before we start.
We stock the common 60mm and 80mm Holland-style pavers, joint sand, and edge restraint on our trucks. Specialty colors and the tumbled and permeable lines are ordered per job, usually with a one to two week lead time. When we come out, we photograph and measure your existing paver to make sure what we bring actually matches. Call (254) 269-5071 for a free estimate.
