Tamko Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Tamko fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 fully installed, depending on linear footage, terrain, and whether we’re replacing existing fence or starting fresh. Most Tamko vinyl and composite fence jobs in the San Antonio area take one to three days once materials are on site. You usually land on this page because a section of your Tamko fence has failed: a gate post leaning after heavy rain, pickets warping in the Texas sun, or a bottom rail that’s cracked where the weed trimmer kept hitting it. We stock the common Tamko-compatible profiles and can match most existing fence lines without tearing out the whole run.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s fence line breaks into a few families: the Heritage vinyl series, the composite Envision line, and their railing systems that often tie into fencing on elevated decks. The part that matters most is the profile, not the model name. Most San Antonio homes built in the last fifteen years with Tamko fencing use either a 6-inch or 8-inch-wide tongue-and-groove picket, a 2×3-1/2 bottom rail, and 5×5 posts with a routed post cap. Pull one picket and measure the exposed face width. That measurement tells us everything we need to know before we even see the fence.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Tamko’s own replacement pickets and rails are the cleanest match, especially on fences more than five years old where UV fade has shifted the color. Aftermarket vinyl profiles from regional extruders work for most standard white and tan runs, but the color match on Tamko’s “Clay” and “Weathered Wood” tones is never exact. We order Tamko OEM parts when the fence is newer and the homeowner wants a perfect match. For older fences where the whole line is getting replaced, aftermarket equivalents cut 20 to 30 percent off the material cost without sacrificing the look. Isaac Pruett will walk you through which route makes sense before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Tamko Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate post leaning more than an inch out of plumb. This usually means the post wasn’t set deep enough for San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil, or the concrete footing cracked after a wet spring. The post itself is often still fine; the footing failed.
- Pickets cracked at the nail line or pulling free. Vinyl expands and contracts with San Antonio’s 40-degree winter-to-summer temperature swings. If the installer nailed the pickets tight instead of using the slotted nail slots, they crack at the fastener line within a few seasons.
- Bottom rail sagging between posts. This shows the rail was cut too long for the bay, or the installer skipped the mid-rail support block on a wide section. Water pools in the sag, then dirt builds up, and the sag gets worse each year.
- White or tan finish looking chalky and streaked. Tamko vinyl has a capstock layer that resists UV, but hard water from sprinkler overspray etches the surface over time. It’s cosmetic, but it tells you the fence is nearing the age where moving parts start failing too.
- Gate binding or dragging on the latch side. Almost always a hinge or post issue, not a gate issue. The post shifts, the hinges lose alignment, and the gate starts catching. Shim the hinges and you’ll be back out there next month; fix the post and it stays put.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
An installed Tamko fence in San Antonio falls between $3,500 and $9,000 depending on the scope. A straight 50-foot side-yard replacement with standard 6-foot vinyl panels runs lower in that range. A full backyard perimeter with two gates, bad access, and tree roots to work around lands higher. We don’t do verbal estimates on this kind of work. You get a written line-item price before any work starts: posts, rails, pickets, gate hardware, concrete for footings, haul-off of the old fence, and labor as separate lines. If the fence fails within 365 days of completion because of our workmanship, we fix it at no cost. That covers a sagging rail, a post that settled, or a gate that stopped latching cleanly. The Tamko product warranty is separate and stays with you as the homeowner.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s no high-tension danger in vinyl fence work, and a handy homeowner can swap a few pickets in an afternoon. What we see go wrong is scope: one failed picket turns into three, then a rail, and before long you’re asking whether the posts are still straight. Leveling posts in San Antonio clay means digging below the grass roots, setting new concrete, and letting it cure before you hang anything. Get that wrong and the gate binds again by next spring. If you want to check it yourself, push firmly on the top of each post. Movement at the base means the footing is gone. That’s when you call us at (254) 269-5071 and get a written price instead of a weekend project that turns into a month.
FAQs

A properly installed Tamko vinyl fence lasts 20 to 30 years in San Antonio’s climate, with the capstock color holding for most of that span. The weak points are the fasteners and footings, which is why installation quality matters as much as the product itself. Call (254) 269-5071 for an exact assessment of your fence.
Individual pickets and rails can be replaced as long as the posts are still plumb and the footings are intact. Once multiple posts are leaning or the bottom rail is sagging in more than one bay, a section replacement usually costs less than repeated patch work in the long run.
Most Tamko fence installations in San Antonio wrap up in one to three working days once materials are staged. Larger jobs with multiple gates or difficult access may run longer, and we’ll put the timeline in your written estimate.
We keep common Tamko-compatible profiles in white and tan on hand for most repair swaps, and we can order OEM Tamko pickets and rails for exact color matches on newer fences. Tell us the picket width and we’ll know by the first call whether we have it.
