Silestone Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Silestone kitchen remodeling in San Antonio typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 for a full kitchen rebuild with Silestone countertops, and most projects we take on are completed within 2 to 4 weeks once materials arrive. If your Silestone countertop has a failed seam, a chip that keeps spreading, or a cracked slab section, the countertop-specific replacement usually costs between $2,000 and $6,500 installed depending on square footage and edge profile. Homeowners usually discover the problem the same way: a hairline crack near the sink that widens after a heavy pot hits it, or a seam that starts collecting grime no matter how much you scrub it.

We’re Mason Remodeling Co San Antonio, an independent kitchen remodeling contractor serving the San Antonio metro area. We’re not affiliated with Silestone as a manufacturer, but we work with their slabs every week and know how they behave in Central Texas heat, humidity, and hard-water kitchens. When a Silestone top fails, the fix is rarely just the stone. It’s the substrate, the seam placement, and sometimes the cabinet boxing underneath. We handle all of it.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone is a quartz surface made by Cosentino, and it comes in dozens of color lines: Eternal, Loft, Sunlit Days, and the classic Series that San Antonio homeowners have been installing for two decades. The part failure pattern is consistent across all of them because the stone itself is 90%+ crushed quartz bound with resin. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is this: Silestone slabs are not interchangeable piece by piece between color lots. If one section of your countertop fails and you’re trying to patch in a new slab, the dye lot will not match the old one. That’s not a flaw. It’s how quartz manufacturing works. Batch variation is real, especially on colors like Charcoal Soapstone or White Zeus.

When we scope a Silestone kitchen remodel, we identify what can be salvaged by checking the underside markings, slab thickness (usually 2cm or 3cm), and edge profile. San Antonio homes built in the 2000s and 2010s often used 3cm slabs with a simple eased edge. Newer builds lean toward thinner 2cm slabs with mitered edges for a thicker look. The OEM-vs-aftermarket decision matters less for quartz than for something mechanical, but we always recommend genuine Silestone slab stock because the resin blend and UV stability are consistent. Aftermarket quartz lookalikes fade differently under Texas sun exposure, and that becomes visible within a few years around a bright kitchen window.

Signs Your Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cracks radiating from the sink or cooktop cutout. Quartz is hard but brittle in tension. A too-thin rail between the sink and the counter edge, or a cabinet below that’s settled unevenly, creates a stress point that eventually cracks. We see this most often in San Antonio homes on pier-and-beam foundations that shift with soil moisture cycles.
  • Seam separation with dark staining. The resin adhesive bond fails when moisture works into a seam that was never properly shimmed. Once water gets under the seam, you’ll see a dark line that no cleaning product removes. That’s not dirt. That’s the adhesive breaking down.
  • Chipping along the front edge. A dropped cast-iron skillet can blow out a chunk. Quartz chips don’t heal, and edge repair kits from the hardware store leave a visible patch that catches light differently. We can replace the edge profile if enough slab overhang remains.
  • Discoloration or haze in a specific area. The resin in Silestone is not fully heat-proof. A hot pan set directly on the surface can scorch the resin and leave a permanent dull spot. Unlike granite, quartz cannot be polished back to the original gloss once the resin is damaged.
  • Cabinet doors below the counter no longer close flush. When cabinet boxes sag or the floor settles, the countertop above flexes with it. You’ll notice the drawer lines looking off before the stone shows any visible crack. That’s the early warning sign worth catching.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

A full Silestone kitchen remodel in San Antonio runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on kitchen size, cabinet scope, and whether we’re repairing or replacing the countertop. If the cabinets are sound and we’re only swapping the Silestone surfaces, countertop installation alone lands at $2,000 to $6,500. A small kitchen remodel with new Silestone counters and cabinetry starts around $9,000 on the low end. Kitchen island installation with a new Silestone top typically runs $3,000 to $10,000 including substrate and finish work.

Every quote we write in San Antonio is a written price delivered before work starts. That means the slab cost, fabrication, templating, haul-away, sink cutout, faucet drilling, and seam work are itemized. You know what you’re paying before the first tool comes out of the truck. The workmanship warranty runs 365 days from the completion date under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the seam fails or the install isn’t right within that year, we come back and make it right at no cost to you. No dispute process, no conditions.

DIY or Call Us?

Honest answer: you cannot replace a Silestone countertop section yourself. Quartz fabrication requires a CNC bridge saw or waterjet, a polishing line, and a controlled shop environment. The slab weighs roughly 18 to 20 pounds per square foot, so a standard 30-square-foot countertop section is 550 pounds or more. That’s a two-person lift with the right suction cup rig, not a weekend job. What you can safely do is check the underside of your existing slab for the thickness stamp and color code. That tells us whether a partial replacement is even possible or if we’re looking at a full re-slab.

If the failure is a failed seam on an otherwise solid countertop, a trained fabricator can sometimes cut and re-seam the section without replacing the whole run. That’s a judgment call made on site after we inspect the substrate. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing. The estimate is free, and you’ll get a straight answer even if the answer is “that seam can wait a season.”
