Cambria Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Cambria kitchen remodeling in San Antonio typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, and the work usually takes three to six weeks depending on whether you’re keeping the existing layout or moving plumbing and electrical. Most owners call us after a countertop chips at the sink cutout, a backsplash seam separates, or they finally admit the 1990s cabinet boxes can’t support another coat of paint. The Cambria slab itself rarely fails. What fails around it is almost always the install work: the seam, the edge profile, the support structure under the overhang, or the cabinet boxes the stone sits on.

We’re an independent San Antonio remodeling company, not affiliated with Cambria, but we work with their slabs every week and know exactly how they behave on Texas cabinets.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Cambria doesn’t sell “models” of kitchen. It sells quartz slabs in design series: the classic Marble Collection, the high-contrast Waterstone Collection, the heavily patterned Designer Collection, and the newer Weathering and Inverness lines. What matters for your kitchen isn’t which collection you have. It’s the slab thickness and the profile the original fabricator cut.

Cambria slabs come in 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm thicknesses. San Antonio kitchens built before roughly 2010 commonly used 2 cm with a laminated build-up edge to fake the look of thicker stone. Newer San Antonio remodels and higher-end spec homes usually use full 3 cm. The gotcha: if your original edge is a laminated 2 cm profile and it delaminates at the seam, you can’t reliably glue it back and expect it to hold. That edge needs a re-fabrication, and matching an older Cambria design means ordering from current stock, because discontinued designs don’t sit in a Cambria warehouse waiting for you. We’ll tell you before we quote whether we’re matching a living design or whether this is the moment to replace the full run.

OEM versus aftermarket for Cambria is mostly about support hardware, not the slab itself. For sink rails, seam adhesive, and edge polish compound, quality aftermarket products from the major stone-supply houses are functionally identical to what Cambria spec’d ten years ago. For the slab, there’s no “aftermarket.” It’s Cambria or it’s a different brand, and we’ll never pass a lookalike off as Cambria. We stock seam kits, sink brackets, silicone, and aluminum profiles on the truck. We order the slab to match.

Signs Your Cambria Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Cambria failure almost always announces itself in one of five ways. If you’re seeing any of these, the fix is usually surgical, not a full-gut job:

  • The seam has pulled open or darkened. Quartz expands and contracts with heat and humidity. San Antonio’s swings from 45-degree winter mornings to 105-degree August afternoons put real stress on seam adhesive. A dark, grimy seam line means the original adhesive has failed and is now trapping moisture.
  • The laminated edge is separating. On 2 cm slabs with a build-up edge, the glue line can fail after years of heat from below-counter appliances and direct sun through a window. You’ll see a hairline crack running horizontally along the front edge, usually near the dishwasher or cooktop.
  • A chip or crack at the sink cutout. This is the most common Cambria-specific failure we see in San Antonio. Undermount sinks put the slab’s thinnest points at the front and back of the cutout. If the fabricator cut the corners too sharp, or if the sink wasn’t properly supported on rails, that’s where it cracks first.
  • The island overhang flexes with weight. A 12-inch Cambria overhang needs steel supports or corbels every 24 to 30 inches. When those supports were skipped, the stone slowly bows. Lean your hip against the overhang. If it moves, the support system needs to be addressed before the slab cracks.
  • The cabinet boxes under the stone are failing. Your Cambria isn’t sagging on its own. If drawers stick, doors hang crooked, or the slab’s front edge is no longer level, the cabinet structure under it is compressing. Stone doesn’t flex; it cracks. You’ll want to address that before the Cambria pays the price.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

A full Cambria kitchen remodel in San Antonio lands between $14,000 and $45,000. If you’re only replacing the Cambria surfaces and keeping your existing cabinets, countertop installation alone runs $2,000 to $6,500 depending on square footage and edge complexity. Backsplash installation sits at $800 to $2,500. A new kitchen island installation is $3,000 to $10,000 depending on slab size, overhang support, and whether we’re running electrical to it.

What drives the range is slab quality selected, total square footage, whether the cabinet boxes can be reused or need replacement, and how much plumbing and electrical the new layout demands. Every quote we write for San Antonio includes the slab, fabrication, removal of the old counter, installation, seam work, sink and faucet reconnection, and cleanup. What it doesn’t include is surprise change orders. Our written price is the price, delivered before any work starts, and the workmanship is covered 365 days from the completion date under our Done Right Promise. If a seam fails or an edge separates within that year, we return and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself before anyone books a visit. Look at the seam under bright light and see if it’s pulling apart. Run a hand along the edge profile and feel for a ridge or lip. Push gently on the overhang and watch for movement. Those observations help us quote accurately over the phone. What you should not do is attempt a repair with a drugstore epoxy kit, clamp a laminated edge back together, or try to lift a slab that’s cracked near the sink cutout. A 3 cm Cambria slab panel can weigh 18 to 20 pounds per square foot. A full island slab can weigh 400 pounds. When it lets go, it goes all at once, and hands get crushed. If the slab is cracked through, leave it in place and call a pro.

If the cabinets below the stone are failing, it’s a structural job, and that’s exactly the kind of work we do every week in San Antonio. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing, start to finish, before anyone sets foot in your kitchen.
