Wellborn Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have a Wellborn window or door that’s sticking, leaking air, or has a broken latch or roller, we can match the part and install it. Most Wellborn parts replacements in San Antonio run between $350 and $1,800 installed depending on whether we’re swapping hardware, glass, or a full sash. The fastest way to a firm number is to call (254) 269-5071, describe what’s failing, and we’ll give you a written price before anyone shows up.
Owners usually notice something small first: a window that takes more muscle to open than it used to, a door that scrapes the frame in one corner, a lock that only catches when you lift the handle just so. By the time you’re searching for parts, it’s because that small thing became a daily annoyance or a real security concern. You want it fixed without three trips to a supply counter and without paying for a full replacement when a part would do.
We’re an independent San Antonio contractor, not a Wellborn dealer or affiliate. That matters because it means we quote parts honestly, we don’t upsell you into a brand-new unit unless yours is truly beyond saving, and we warranty the labor on whatever we install.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds windows and doors across a few distinct series lines, and the part you need depends on which line you have. The identifying label is usually on the inside edge of the sash or the top of the door slab: look for a series code like Wellborn’s 200 Series (builders’ grade, common in South Texas tract builds), the 400 Series (mid-range, heavier extruded frames), and the 700 Series (their higher-end wood-clad line). If the label is worn off, measure the frame depth with a tape measure: 2-5/8 inches is typically the 200 series, 3-1/4 inches the 400, and 3-5/8 inches or deeper points to the 700 line.
The compatibility gotcha we see in San Antonio is this: the 200 and 400 series share some hardware, but the 700 series uses entirely different balances, pivots, and locking hardware. Buy the wrong one and the holes won’t line up without drilling new ones, which weakens the frame. A second gotcha is climate-related: the well-fitted weatherstripping on older Wellborn units hardens over five to eight years in South Texas heat. We stock OEM Wellborn hardware where it’s still available and quality aftermarket equivalents for discontinued parts, and we’ll tell you plainly which one you’re getting and why.
We also stock compatible parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria, and Silestone surfaces, in case the window or door issue turns out to be a symptom of a bigger problem around the opening.

Signs Your Wellborn Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window sash won’t stay up, or drops slowly when you let go. This almost always means the spiral balance or block-and-tackle balance inside the sash has lost tension. On Wellborn units, we replace balances in pairs so the window doesn’t pull to one side.
- Lock or latch only catches when you lift, push, or jiggle the door. The strike plate has shifted, or the roller is worn to the point where the slab sits low. Forcing the lock until it catches strips the keeper and makes the next repair more expensive.
- Visible daylight or noticeable draft around the perimeter. In San Antonio, this is usually compressed or brittle weatherstripping, often on the north and west exposures where summer sun does the most damage. It’s a parts swap, not a whole-unit replacement.
- Sliding door makes a grinding or sandy sound. The rollers are shot, and they’ve started scraping debris along the track. If you hear this, stop using the door until we look at it: a seized roller can score the track, turning a $300 parts job into a much costlier track replacement.
- Condensation or fogging between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed. On Wellborn 400 and 700 series, we can replace the IGU without replacing the whole sash, but on older 200 series units it’s sometimes cheaper to swap the entire sash assembly.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Wellborn windows and doors in San Antonio, here’s the range you should expect:
- Hardware replacement (locks, latches, handles, hinges): $350 – $900 installed, depending on the series and how many pieces need swapping.

- Weatherstripping and sealing: $300 – $800 installed for a typical door or window perimeter.
- Insulated glass unit (IGU) replacement: $600 – $1,800 installed, driven by glass size, tint, and whether the sash needs to be removed.
Every quote includes parts, labor, haul-away of the old components, and a written warranty on our work for 365 days from the completion date. If the part we install fails within that year, we return and make it right at no charge. That’s our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: note the series label, measure the frame, photograph the worn part, and see whether the lock or latch is simply loose at the screws. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone.
What we don’t recommend is taking apart a window balance or a sliding door yourself. These assemblies are under spring tension, and if the balance releases incorrectly it can take a finger with it. Sliding doors are heavy, and a dropped slab is a trip to urgent care and a cracked frame. If you’ve gotten as far as identifying the part but don’t want to wrestle it out, call (254) 269-5071. We’ll send someone who knows exactly which Wellborn part your series needs.
FAQs

Frames on 400 and 700 series Wellborn units routinely last 25 to 30 years in San Antonio with normal maintenance. Weatherstripping, balances, and rollers typically need replacement every 8 to 12 years because of the heat and UV exposure. The glass itself can last the life of the unit unless a seal fails. Call (254) 269-5071 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your unit is worth repairing or has reached the end of its service life.
In most cases, yes. If the frame is square, the glass isn’t cracked, and the issue is a worn balance, roller, latch, or weatherstrip, a parts replacement brings the unit back to working order for a fraction of full replacement cost. We only suggest a full replacement when the frame is rotted, warped, or the cost of repairs exceeds roughly 60 percent of a new unit. Call (254) 269-5071 for an honest assessment and a written price either way.
Most hardware, balance, and weatherstripping swaps are done in under two hours for a single unit. IGU glass replacement may take a week to ten days because the glass unit has to be fabricated to your sash dimensions. We’ll give you a time window in writing before the work begins.
Our San Antonio trucks carry the most commonly needed Wellborn hardware: balances, rollers, latches, handles, and weatherstripping for the 200 and 400 series. 700 series parts and custom-sized insulated glass are special-ordered, and we’ll tell you the lead time before you commit to anything.
